Case Studies: Due Diligence
Patent Negotiations
JME
was contacted as a result of activities with the Society of Competitive
Intelligence Professionals. A USA private equity firm had purchased a
portfolio of patents and had obtained a review of possibly conflicting
Japanese patents prior to licensing negotiations. JME was chosen to critique
the patent review, and suggest ways to maximize the effectiveness of negotiations
with Japanese licensees.
Acquisitions
JME’s client was a publicly-traded semiconductor production equipment company eager to expand its share of the Japan market. The client’s stock had done well, so that it could now consider acquiring a Japanese company in a complementary product line. JME was retained to do due diligence investigation of the potential acquisition target from the point of view of investigating the competitiveness of its technology in the market and the extent to which customers would remain with the acquisition were it purchased by another firm.
