Legislative Monitoring

Several U.S.-based coalitions used JME staff to counter possible Japanese legislation:

  1. reducing health-care reimbursements for pharmaceutical products or
  2. weakening intellectual property protection for software.

Regulatory Strategy

JME was retained by a U.S.-based health care firm to assist in putting into place legislation or reimbursement regulations that would improve the client’s business environment.

Regulatory Policy Participation

A U.S.-based company used JME staff to identify and approach Japanese industry allies on a government panel shaping national policy in the satellite business. JME advised a Pacific Basin fruit exporter on dealing with Japan’s phytosanitary restrictions.

Technical Standards Management

Several foreign-capital computer network companies have relied on JME staff to follow, and if necessary to intervene in, the course of telecommunications network standardization in Japan.

Industry-to-Industry Dialog

A foreign trade association without an office in Japan retained JME staff to arrange joint conferences, exhibits and market surveys with the counterpart Japanese industry association.
